The Icosahedrophilia summer 2013 marathon continues with a five-part adventure entitled “From Beyond”! What’s this whole “marathon” thing about, you ask? Well, my primary motive is to close the gap between the podcast and our offline campaign activities. I’d like to be giving you reasonably fresh content rather than recordings that are over a year old! I’m also experimenting with different workflows to try to make the whole experience more efficient on my end so that we have fewer problems with long periods without publication.
At any rate, episode 167 kicks off a new adventure! In our previous adventure, “In the Vault,” our heroes entered the prison level of some kind of fortress, defeating a ghostly jailer and freeing the prisoners. In this episode’s Weather Report, our heroes learn about a ritual that the fortress’s inhabitants have planned, and they set out to stop it! Please listen now or subscribe via iTunes, Zune, or plain old RSS!
This episode features the following segments:
I call for your initiative roll myself. The rotation of third-party initiative rolls has gotten a little stale, so until I can recruit some new callers into the rotation, I’m going stick with me.
The Staging Area
I briefly summarize the campaign backstory and review the situation at the end of “In the Vault, Part 6.”
The Weather Report
Our heroes learn about a ritual that the fortress’s inhabitants have planned, and they set out to stop it! To do so, they work their way up through the fortress, encountering relatively light resistance along the way.
The Prop Shop
I describe my use of wooden walls and doors in place of the acrylic sheet I used during “In the Vault.” Here’s a photo of the prison level as laid out for this session:
I also remind listeners about the Into the Unknown drawing. If you think you know the published adventure that contributed this dungeon layout and notable NPCs, leave a comment in the show notes and you’ll be entered into this drawing!
As always, our theme and bumper music comes from “Racing the Wind” and “Gallows Jig,” from the album Phantoms of the High Seas by Nox Arcana, ©2008 Monolith Graphics. “From Beyond” also features, in the background, “The Snake Charmer” by Medwyn Goodall, from his album King Shaman, © 1997 Oreade Music; “Snake Charmer” by Nox Arcana, from their album Carnival of Lost Souls, © 2006 Monolith Graphics; and “Achela’s Ritual” by Christy Carew, © 2010 Sonic Legends. I hope that you enjoy(ed) listening to “From Beyond, Part 1,” and that you’ll rejoin us when the adventure continues in “From Beyond, Part 2”!
